# Understand Email Sequence change impacts

> Learn how editing an active Email Sequence affects existing and future subscribers differently.

Changes to an existing, active **Email Sequence** (one with current subscribers) impact subscribers differently depending on when they subscribed.

  **Tip:** Set up and finalize your Email Sequence before adding subscribers to ensure that the emails in your sequence are sent to all your sequence subscribers exactly as you intend.

## Existing subscribers

Existing subscribers already subscribed to your Email Sequence will only receive changes to **existing emails** in your sequence if they have not yet reached the sending day of the updated email.

<Important>
  **Important:** Emails added to a sequence cannot be sent retroactively to existing subscribers.
</Important>

For example, if you created an Email Sequence with three emails sent on days 3, 5, and 7, and you later decided to add an email to be sent on day 6 of the sequence, that email will only be sent to subscribers who have not yet passed day 6.

## Subscribers added after changes

Subscribers added after changes to your Email Sequence will receive updates/changes to your Email Sequence moving forward:

We recommend setting up your Email Sequence before adding subscribers to ensure that any changes you wish to make are finalized for all subscribers in your sequence.
