# Edit app store listings

> Update app name, description, icon, screenshots, keywords, and more on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The **app store listing** is the digital front door for a Branded App. Update what your audience sees when they search for the app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

## What you can edit on app store listings

The app listing in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store is prime real estate—it's where first impressions happen.

For app store pages, you are able to edit:

* **App name & description**
* **App icon & logo**
* **Screenshots**
* **Categorization, Metadata, & Keywords (Apple only)**
* **Support, terms, and privacy links**
* **Localization**
* **App Developer Name**

## App name & description

**What the app name is**: The name of the app as it appears in the store and on users' devices.
**Best practice**: Keep it short, brand-relevant, and recognizable (e.g., *"The Yoga Studio by Jane Doe"*).

Apple limits app names to 30 characters. Google allows up to 50.

**What the app description is**: The overview of what the app offers, shown to potential users in both stores.
**Best practice**: Speak directly to your ideal audience. Highlight transformation, benefits, and what they'll unlock by downloading the app. Use short paragraphs, bullets, and a motivating tone. **Apple**: Only shows the first few lines unless the user expands it—make them count.
**Google**: Includes a short (80-character) *"Short Description"* plus a full-length version.

**For Apple (iOS)** you can update the app name and description with this article: [How to Update your Brand Assets](/articles/mobile-apps/branded-app/how-to-update-your-branded-app-brand-assets-or-terms-privacy-links). Apple typically reviews app changes in 24-48 hours.

**For Google (Android)** you can simply login to [Google Play Console](https://play.google.com/console), click on the app, navigate to **Grow Users**, click on **Store Presence**, click on **Store Listings**, and edit the **Default Store Listing** to change the app name and description.

Once you've made updates, you can click save and send the change for review. Google typically reviews changes in 24-48 hours.

## App icon & logo

**What it is**: The icon is the image that appears on the user's phone and in the app store listing. The logo is what shows inside of the app.
**Best practice**: Keep it simple, high contrast, and readable at small sizes. Often, your logo (or an abstract element of it) works best.

## Screenshots

**What it is**: Visual previews of the app's experience—these are front and center in the listing.
**Best practice**: Use clean, branded screenshots that show real in-app features like:

* Welcome screen or homepage
* Course library or lesson view
* Community or discussion areas
* Coaching features (e.g., calendar, check-ins)

Use captions on screenshots to guide the viewer and reinforce value.

## Categorization, metadata, and keywords

**What it is**: Metadata that helps the app appear in search results in the App Store.
**Best practice**: Think like your audience—what terms would they search to find an app like yours? Use relevant keywords, separated by commas (no spaces), and avoid duplicates.

* **Primary & Secondary Category**: Helps with store discoverability (e.g., Education, Health & Fitness)
* **Keywords (Apple only)**: Search terms to help the app appear in App Store search results. Example: fitness,workouts,home yoga,coaching,wellness
* **Tags (Google Play)**: Help with app classification

3. **Choose or create a new version**
   * Under the **App Store** tab, click on the app version currently in **Prepare for Submission** (or create a new version if you're updating).
   * If no version is available for editing, you'll need to click the blue **+** button to create one. Type in the next version number up from the current live version number.

   In the version details, find the **Keywords** field.

5. **Edit the keywords**

<Tip>
  **Tip:**

  * Use keywords naturally in the **Full Description**—Google Play uses this content to power search rankings.
  * Keep the **Short Description** benefit-focused: What transformation will the app help users achieve?
  * Regularly update metadata to reflect features or seasonal offerings.
</Tip>

## Localization (Optional)

**Localization** means adapting the app's listing to different **languages and regions**, so people around the world can find, understand, and engage with the app—**in their native language**.

This includes:

* Translated **app name**
* Custom **screenshots**
* Region-specific **descriptions** and **keywords**
* Localized **date, time, number, and currency formats** (in-app)

Apps with localized listings often get **significantly higher downloads** in non-English-speaking markets.

   [Contact Apple Developer Support](https://developer.apple.com/contact/)

Once approved, the **organization name** will appear as the developer on the App Store.

### For Google (Android)

1. **Login to Google Play Console**
   [https://play.google.com/console](https://play.google.com/console)

2. **Open Developer Account settings**
