# Understand Downloads security

> Learn how Kajabi protects your downloadable content with temporary URLs and login requirements.

Protecting your content is essential. The **Downloads Product** safeguards your downloadable materials with multiple security measures, ensuring only your customers can access them.

## How Downloads security works

Kajabi generates a temporary URL when a customer clicks on your download link. This temporary URL is created specifically for that customer and auto-initiates the download.

A customer must be logged in to perform the download. The link cannot be copied, and if shared publicly, it cannot be used to download your content.

### What makes the temporary URL secure

* **Not guessable** - The temporary URL uses a secure, randomized format
* **Hidden from the customer** - The URL is not visible or accessible to copy
* **Regenerated each time** - A new URL is created with each download click, so shared links won't work
* **Expires after 1 minute** - After expiration, your customer must be logged in and click download again to generate a new temporary URL

## FAQs

### Can customers share the download link with others?

No. The temporary URL is hidden from customers and cannot be copied. Even if a URL were shared, it expires after 1 minute and cannot be reused.

### Do customers need to be logged in to download files?

Yes. A customer must be logged in to their account to generate a temporary download URL and access your files.

### What happens if a download link expires?

If the link expires, the customer can simply click the download button again while logged in. A new secure temporary URL is generated with each click.
