# Set up a paid trial in a Subscription Offer
> Charge a one-time fee at signup before a subscriber's recurring billing begins.
A **Setup fee** lets you collect an upfront payment before a subscription cycle starts — giving new members access to your Offer while you earn from day one. Once the trial ends, subscribers are automatically charged the recurring price set in your Offer.
## Configure a paid trial
1. Open the **Sales** tab from your Dashboard.
2. Select **Pricing**.
3. Select the **Offer** you want to set up a trial period for.
4. In the Offer editor, open the **Pricing** tab.
5. Locate the **Price Details** section.
6. Select **Subscription** for the Payment type.
7. Enter your desired **Payment amount** for each recurring payment.
8. In the **Trial period days** field, enter the number of days your trial period will last after purchase.
9. In the **Setup fee** field, enter the payment amount you wish to charge for the trial: 
10. Your customers will be charged the Setup fee immediately and then all payments following the end of your trial period will be charged according to your specified subscription **Payment amount**.
**Note:** If you choose to keep the trial period blank, your customer will be charged the **Setup fee** + **Payment Amount** for the first subscription payment. Each subsequent payment will charge only the specified Payment Amount. To collect just the Setup fee for the first payment, enter your desired number of **Trial period days** — once the trial ends, recurring billing begins at the Payment Amount you set.
