# Add a two-step opt-in to a blog

> Improve opt-in rates by adding a customizable two-step opt-in popup to your blog.

## Overview

A two-step opt-in is a popup that appears when a button or call to action is clicked on your page. This feature leverages human psychology to encourage opt-ins—by committing to the initial small step of clicking a call to action, your site visitor is more likely to commit to the next step of opting in.

</div>

## What is a two-step opt-in?

**The two steps in the two-step opt-in:**

1. Click a button
2. Opt-in

With this simple feature, you can improve your rate of opt-ins with a customized, branded popup. Kajabi's two-step opt-in is an easy-to-use alternative to traditional opt-in popups.

**Plus, it's flexible.**

In your blog, you can use it to display a message, an image, or a Progress Bar—all to grow your list.

## Set up a two-step opt-in

### Step 1. Create and customize your two-step opt-in popup

1. Open the **Website** tab from the Dashboard.
2. Click **Pages**.
3. Select the **Blog** or **Blog Post** page from the list of Website Pages. Create a two-step opt-in popup for the main blog homepage or for every blog post.
4. In the sidebar, click **Two-Step Optin**.
5. Select **Show Popup** to view changes while you edit.
6. Customize the two-step opt-in popup to display the form and any additional blocks.
7. Uncheck **Show Popup** and click **Save** to apply the changes:

<div className="w-full aspect-video">
  <iframe src="https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/vhmzqjpd7r" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowFullScreen className="w-full h-full" />
</div>

### Step 2. Create a call to action button to trigger the two-step opt-in popup

To enable your two-step opt-in, set up a button or call to action to open the two-step opt-in when clicked.

Keep in mind, although you can create multiple call to action buttons in your blog homepage or blog posts to trigger your two-step opt-in, you can only create and customize one two-step opt-in popup for your blog homepage and one popup to appear across all blog posts.

For the purpose of this guide, you will create a call to action in the **Blog Sidebar** to enable the two-step opt-in popup when clicked.

#### Create a call to action in the blog sidebar

1. Navigate back to the sidebar editor.
2. Open the **Blog Listings** section.
3. Click **Add Content** under the Sidebar section.
4. Select **Call to Action**.
5. Locate **Button Action** in the sidebar control panel.
6. Select **Open two-step opt-in popup**.
7. Customize the button message and button appearance from the sidebar control panel.
8. Click **Save** to apply and keep the changes:

<div className="w-full aspect-video">
  <iframe src="https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/9q91zeisg3" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowFullScreen className="w-full h-full" />
</div>
