# Change a domain after a site is live

> Understand the effects of changing your domain or subdomain after your Kajabi site is already live.

## Overview

Wondering what happens to your existing traffic and links if you change your domain? This guide explains the differences between changing to a custom domain versus changing your Kajabi subdomain.

## Changing subdomain to a custom domain

Kajabi ensures that your site can be accessed through your Kajabi Subdomain and your connected Custom Domain!

[Connecting a custom Domain](/articles/website/domains/connect-a-custom-domain) to your Kajabi site (even after your site has been live for some time) will allow your visitors to access your site with both your original Kajabi Subdomain and your connected Custom Domain.

For example:

You launch your site with the Kajabi subdomain, myawesomesite.mykajabi.com, then decide to connect your custom domain to Kajabi (e.g., myawesomesite.com).

Your site visitors can access your site with both the Kajabi subdomain **myawesomesite.mykajabi.com** and your connected custom domain **myawesomesite.com**!

## Change your Kajabi subdomain to a different Kajabi subdomain

At this time, it isn't possible to set up a 301 redirect to the new subdomain natively within Kajabi.

If you start with a Kajabi subdomain (e.g., helpcenter.mykajabi.com), gain traffic, and then change it at a later date (e.g., articles.mykajabi.com) the old subdomain will show up as a non-existing page.

<Tip>
  **Tip:** If you wish to create a new domain for branding purposes, we recommend creating a custom domain and [connecting it to Kajabi](/articles/website/domains/connect-a-custom-domain). Then, both the old subdomain and new custom domain will direct to your website appropriately.
