We’re updating the Kajabi Communities roles and permissions system to make it simpler to manage while still giving the right people the right access.
Why We are Making this Change
Previously, Admins and Moderators could be added in two places — the Kajabi Admin dashboard or inside the community. This has caused confusion about who has which permissions and where to manage them. We’re simplifying the system so it’s easier to know where to go to manage each role.
What’s Changing
We’re introducing a new, dedicated role:
Assistant.
Here’s how it works:
Community Role | Where You Add & Manage | Key Purpose | Permission Changes |
Admin | Kajabi Admin dashboard only | Full community management | No permission changes |
Assistant | Kajabi Admin dashboard only | Full community management without access to financial report data | Same permissions as the original moderator |
Moderator | Inside the community only | Manages content within assigned access groups | Reduced Permissions- see below |
Moderators that were added within the community will remain Moderators and experience reduced permissions (see below)
Moderators that were added from the dashboard will change to Assistant, and all permissions will remain the same
Admins added from the Kajabi admin dashboard will retain their title and permissions.
Admins who were appointed from within the community will be downgraded to moderators. In the future, if you want to add an admin, it will be done in the Kajabi dashboard.
Moderator Permission Changes
Moderators Will No Longer Be Able To:
Access community settings
Create new features
See or edit content outside assigned access groups
Promote other moderators
What Moderators Will Still Be Able To Do:
Edit or delete existing content within their assigned access groups
Coming Soon: Moderators will be able to create and edit channels, meetups, and challenges within their access groups in a future update.
How Current Roles Will Be Affected
Moderators
If added in the dashboard → will become Assistants and all permissions will remain the same
If added inside the community → will remain Moderators and experience reduced permissions
Admins
If added in the dashboard → will remain Admin and all permissions will remain the same
If added inside the community → will become Moderators and experience reduced permissions
