Configuring Upcoming Payment Reminder Emails

Updated today

Automatically notify your customers before a recurring subscription or payment plan charge is processed. When enabled, Kajabi sends a reminder email a set number of days before each upcoming payment, giving customers time to review their details, update their payment method, or reach out with questions.

This feature works with subscriptions and payment plans managed through Kajabi Payments, Stripe, and PayPal.

Beta: This feature is being rolled out gradually. If you don't see the Payment reminder emails section yet, it will be enabled for your account soon.

Enable Payment Reminder Emails

  1. Go to Settings > Customer Payments.

  2. Scroll to the Payment reminder emails section.

  3. Toggle the switch to On.

  4. Configure your settings (see below).

  5. Click Save at the top of the page.

Configuring Your Payment Reminder Emails

Days Before Upcoming Payment

Set how many days before an upcoming charge the reminder should go out. You can choose any value between 1 and 30 days; the default is 7 days.

The number of days you choose must be shorter than the offer's billing cycle. For example, setting a 30-day reminder for a monthly subscription will not result in a payment reminder.

Which Offers Receive Reminders

Choose whether reminders apply to all of your offers or only specific ones:

  • All offers (default): Reminders are sent for every subscription and payment plan on your site, including future offers.

  • Specific offers: Only the offers you select will trigger reminders. A multi-select list of your published recurring offers will appear when this option is chosen.

Customize the Reminder Email

When a reminder is triggered, the customer receives an email with their name, the offer title, the payment amount and due date, a link to update their payment method, and your site's support email.

You can edit the subject line and body of the reminder email at any time:

  1. From the Payment reminder emails section, click Customize reminder email.

  2. This opens the "Upcoming Payment Notification" email template editor.

  3. Edit the subject and body as needed, then save.

How Reminders Work

Kajabi checks all eligible subscriptions and payment plans to determine which customers should receive a reminder based on your configured days-before setting.

Eligibility Requirements

A subscription will receive a reminder when all of the following are true:

  • The subscription is active.

  • The next billing date falls within your configured reminder window.

  • The offer is included in your reminder settings.

  • A reminder has not already been sent for this billing cycle.

Note: Updating a customer's billing date manually may result in an additional reminder if they have already received the notification and the updated date falls within the reminder window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will existing customers receive reminders when I turn this on?

Yes. All active subscriptions that meet the eligibility criteria will begin receiving reminders; there is no distinction between new and existing subscribers.

Can I set different reminder timing for different offers?

Not at this time. The days-before setting applies globally across your site. You can, however, control which offers trigger reminders using the All offers vs. Specific offers setting.

What if a customer has multiple active subscriptions?

Each subscription is evaluated independently. If a customer has two subscriptions renewing within the reminder window, they will receive a separate reminder email for each one.

What about customers who are cancelling or on a free trial?

Customers with a pending cancellation will not receive a reminder. Customers on a free trial who have not yet been charged will also not receive a reminder. For trial-ending notifications, see the separate "Trial Ending" email template.
