How to Update a Template

Learn to update your Templates for your Website Pages, Landing Pages, Product Pages, and Emails to fix bugs or add any new features that may be available with the latest template version.

Note:
You may see some visual differences in our videos as we have features that are in the process of rolling out. You will see these changes reflected in your account in the future.

Note:
Previously installed Website and Product templates will remain in your Template Menu as inactive until they have been reactivated or manually deleted. 

Website Template

Update the template for your Website on Kajabi to apply bug fixes and install the latest editing capabilities that may be available with your Website Template. 

If your website is built with the legacy template, Premier, the best way to update your website is by installing the same template you are currently using. 

However, we recommend rebuilding your website with the latest design templates, featuring rich editing capabilities only available with the latest version of the Website Builder.

Update your website template

Updating your website template will apply all of the latest editing capabilities and any bug fixes that may be available with the new version to your website pages. 

This can greatly improve your experience with the website builder for your template and give you access to the latest features Kajabi may have included with your template.

Before attempting to update your template, it is important to keep in mind that updating your template is supported with compatible templates:

  • Website Page Template Update only supports Encore Beta 0.4.0, 0.4.1, and 1.0.0-GM as well as Encore 1.x and higher. Other versions of Encore Beta and Premier versions will not be able to view or access the "Update" Template button.
  • Landing Page Template Update only supports Encore 2.x and higher. Anything in the 1.x. generation of Encore is not supported.

To update your website template:

  • Open the Website tab from your Dashboard.
  • Click the Website Pages tab.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Click Update.
  • Review the information provided in the Update Modal.
  • Acknowledge and check the disclaimer, "I understand that any changes I've made using the Code Editor may not be applied to this template version".
  • Then, click Update now:

Revert your website template

If you do not want to keep the updated version of your website template, you can easily revert back to your previously saved template with the revert template feature.

If you have not updated your template, you will not have the option to revert back to a previous version.

Warning:
Any changes made to the current version will be lost when reverting to your previous template.

To revert back to your previously saved template version:

  • Open the Website tab from your Dashboard.
  • Click the Website Pages tab.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Click the … menu icon.
  • Select Update Template.
  • Then, click Revert.
  • Confirm your desire to revert your template by acknowledging the prompt.
  • Then, click Revert:

Page Template

Update your landing page template to apply bug fixes and install the latest editing capabilities that may be available with your Landing Page Template.

If your website is built with legacy templates, the best way to update your website is by installing the same template you are currently using. 

However, we recommend rebuilding your website with the latest design templates. With the latest design templates you can build your pages with rich editing capabilities only available with the latest version of Kajabi Pages.

Note:
If your original page is built with a legacy template, your data will not automatically transfer onto landing pages built with Kajabi Pages and conversely, pages built with Kajabi Pages will not automatically transfer into pages built with a legacy template. 

Update your landing page template

Updating your template will apply all of the latest editing capabilities and any bug fixes that may be available with the new version to your pages. 

This can greatly improve your experience and give you access to the latest features Kajabi may have included with your template.

To update your website template:

  • Open the Website tab from your Dashboard.
  • Select the Landing Pages tab.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Click Update.
  • Review the information provided in the Update Modal.
  • Click Preview Update.
  • Acknowledge and check the disclaimer, "I understand that any changes I've made using the Code Editor may not be applied to this template version".
  • Then, click Update now:

Note:
Attempting to update a Landing Page template using the Encore 1.X.X version (e.g., Encore 1.2.1) may result in an invalid error. Due to incompatibility, you may need to build a new landing page using a template newer than 2.0.0 in order to get the latest functionality.

Revert your landing page template

If you do not want to keep the updated version of your template, you can easily revert back to your previously saved template with the revert template feature.

If you have not updated your template, you will not have the option to revert back to a previous version.

Any changes made to the current version will be lost when reverting to your previous template.

To revert back to your previously saved template version:

  • Open the Website tab from your Dashboard.
  • Select the Landing Pages tab.
  • Locate the template you wish to revert.
  • Click the … menu icon.
  • Select Update Template.
  • Then, click Revert.
  • Confirm your desire to revert your template by acknowledging the prompt.
  • Then, click Revert:

Product Template

Update your Product template for bug fixes and added features.

Updating your Product Template will automatically import your Product content to your new template when activated. 

Note:
Installed Product Templates can be customized independently from one another. If you have existing Customers in your Product, they will not see your changes to an inactive template. This allows you to customize your newly installed Product Template behind-the-scenes until you are ready to activate the template for your Customers.

Update your product template

To update your Product template:

  • Open the Product tab from the Dashboard.
  • Select the Product you wish to customize.
  • Click Customize.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Open the … icon next to the template you wish to update.
  • Click Update.
  • Review the information provided in the Update Modal.

    • Click Get Details if you wish to learn more about the updates.
  • Click Preview Update to preview the changes included with the template update.
  • Acknowledge and check the disclaimer, "I understand that any changes I've made using the Code Editor may not be applied to this template version".
  • Then, click Update now:

Revert your product template

If you do not want to keep the updated version of your product template, you can easily revert back to your previously saved template with the revert template feature.

If you have not updated your template, you will not have the option to revert back to a previous version.

Warning:

To revert back to your previously saved template version:

  • Open the Product tab from the Dashboard.
  • Select the Product you wish to customize.
  • Click Customize.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Click the … menu icon next to the template.
  • Select Update Template.
  • Then, click Revert.
  • Confirm your desire to revert your template by acknowledging the prompt.
  • Then, click Revert:

Email Template

Update your email template

Your email templates may have access to bug fixes or include new features. If you have created a custom email template, you can easily update your email template to gain access to the latest template version.

To update your email template:

  • Open the Marketing tab from your Dashboard. 
  • Click Manage Templates.
  • Locate the Template you wish to update.
  • Click the … icon to access more actions.
  • Select Update template:

Revert your email template

If you do not want to keep the updated version of your email template, you can easily revert back to your previously saved template with the revert template feature.

If you have not updated your template, you will not have the option to revert back to a previous version.

  • Open the Marketing tab from your Dashboard.

Updating a 3rd Party Theme

If you have a 3rd party theme installed from our Theme store or external theme provider you can now update that theme directly through Kajabi. 

Please note:

  • Any custom code installed through the Kajabi Code Editor, will not be copied over.
  • Any custom code installed through the Kajabi Builder will be copied over.
  • Any settings in .json, such as fonts, style guides, etc will be copied over.
  • Any previous changes to sections and blocks will be copied over.
  • Ensure you upload the same theme file, or your file may be corrupted. For example, upload the same website theme, landing page theme, etc for updates. Do not mix and match these files.

How to update a 3rd party Website theme:

  • From your Kajabi Dashboard, click Website-Design.
  • Select the drop-down menu next to your themes title.
  • Click Update theme.
  • Select Upload Theme.
  • In the File Uploader, drag your updated 3rd party template theme zip to install.
  • If you wish to revert these changes, select Update theme again, then click Revert.

How to update a 3rd party Landing Page theme:

  • Open the Website tab from your Dashboard.
  • Select the Landing Pages tab.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Click the … menu icon.
  • Select Update Template.
  • Then, Upload Theme.
  • In the File Uploader, drag your updated 3rd party template theme zip to install.
  • If you wish to revert these changes, select Update theme again, then click Revert.

How to update a 3rd party Product theme:

  • Open the Product tab from the Dashboard.
  • Select the Product you wish to customize.
  • Click Customize.
  • Locate the template you wish to update.
  • Open the … icon next to the template you wish to update.
  • Click Update theme.
  • Select Upload Theme.
  • In the File Uploader, drag your updated 3rd party template theme zip to install.
  • If you wish to revert these changes, select Update theme again, then click Revert.
