Why am I seeing unexpected charges, holds, or duplicate invoices during my Kajabi trial?

Updated yesterday

Unexpected charges or duplicate invoices can understandably cause confusion during your Kajabi trial. These scenarios often occur due to authorization holds, subscription plan changes, or billing system behavior under specific circumstances. This article explains the common reasons behind these occurrences, what they mean, and how to address them.

Authorization Holds vs. Actual Charges

When starting a Kajabi trial, your bank may place temporary authorization holds to verify your payment method. These holds:

  • Are not actual charges.

  • Appear as pending transactions.

  • Automatically drop off based on your bank's processing time.

For example, if you saw a $149 or $89 charge during the trial, it’s likely an authorization hold rather than a final charge. Authorization holds are reversed without debiting your account once the verification is complete. If the trial signup does not proceed properly, you can create a new account to retry the process.

Charges During Trial Periods

Subscription Plan Changes

Switching your subscription plan during the trial will immediately end the trial and activate paid billing. For example:

  • Moving to the Basic plan triggers the first plan charge.

  • Switching again (e.g., to a Growth plan) will result in an additional charge for the new plan.

Kajabi treats such changes as confirmation of subscription, so the free trial period is canceled, and normal billing begins.

End of Trial

Kajabi’s standard trial period is 14 days. At the end of the trial, the billing system automatically processes the first subscription charge, regardless of the exact time of processing. If you mistakenly believed you were on a longer trial (e.g., 30 days), Kajabi offers a 30-day refund policy for the first charge, provided you request it promptly and cancel your subscription to avoid further billing.

Duplicate Charges and Multiple Invoices

Duplicate charges can occur due to:

  • Previous failed billing attempts being retried and successfully processed.

  • Multiple invoices becoming due simultaneously, such as a past-due invoice alongside the current renewal charge.

For example, you may see two similar charges (e.g., $199), which reflect the collection of both unpaid and new invoices. Updating your payment details or the billing cycle running could trigger this.

How to Review and Resolve

To better understand the charges posted to your account:

  1. Access your account's billing section. This will show details of all invoices and the reasons behind them.

  2. For authorization holds, contact your bank to confirm the processing timeline.

  3. For duplicate or unexpected charges, reach out to Kajabi support with your account details for specific clarifications and assistance.
