ACH Direct Debit for invoicing

Updated today

ACH Direct Debit lets your customers pay invoices directly from their U.S. bank account. When a customer pays an invoice using ACH, the payment begins processing and the invoice and transaction move through a predictable set of statuses until the funds settle (or the payment fails).

Note: At this time, ACH payments are supported only for invoices.

Beta: ACH is being gradually rolled out for US merchants. If you don't see it as an available payment option yet, it will be enabled soon. For support, contact payments.support@kajabi.com.

Eligibility and requirements

ACH Direct Debit for invoicing has the following requirements:

  • US Heroes only: ACH Direct Debit is available only to eligible U.S.-based Heroes.

  • $2 minimum invoice amount: Your invoice must be $2 USD or more to use ACH Direct Debit.

How ACH Direct Debit works

When a customer pays an invoice using ACH Direct Debit at checkout, their bank account is verified immediately. If verification succeeds, checkout completes and the payment begins processing. Unlike card payments, ACH payments take time to settle. Both invoices and transactions move through several statuses during processing.

At checkout, the customer selects ACH Direct Debit and verifies their bank account.

  • If the bank account is successfully verified, checkout completes and the payment begins processing.

  • If the bank account cannot be verified or an error occurs, checkout does not complete. The customer will be prompted to try again or use another payment method.

  • If the customer selects "Save payment method for future purchases," future purchases with this bank account will not require re-verification.

After a successful checkout both the Transaction and Invoice are set to a Pending status as ACH payments require time to settle through the banking network.

ACH payments typically settle in approximately 4 business days.

If the payment succeeds:

  • Invoice → Paid

  • Transaction → Paid

  • This ACH transaction will be visible in your Kajabi Payments balance

If the payment fails or is canceled during processing:

  • Transaction → Failed

  • Invoice → Opened

If the ACH payment failure occurs, the Invoice’s status will move back to Open. Your customer will be able to visit the same invoice for payment, and you can re-send it to the customer if needed. Learn more about Invoice statuses.

ACH Direct Debit settings

Enable ACH Direct Debit

To enable ACH Direct Debit for invoices:

  1. Go to Sales → Invoices.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll to the Payment providers section.

  4. Under Additional payment options, enable ACH direct debit.

  5. Click Save.

Once enabled, customers will see ACH Direct Debit as a payment option when paying invoices at checkout.

Offer access for ACH payments

You can control when customers receive offer access for ACH Direct Debit purchases.

Because ACH payments remain Pending while the bank transfer processes, you can choose whether access is granted immediately or after the payment settles with the Grant offer access immediately upon checkout setting located in the Offer access section of your invoice settings.

If enabled:

  • Customers receive offer access immediately after checkout while the ACH transaction is Pending

  • If payment ultimately fails, Offer access will be automatically revoked

If disabled:

  • Offer access is granted only after the transaction becomes Paid

  • This occurs when the ACH payment settles (typically about 4 business days)

Disable this option if you prefer to wait for payment settlement before granting access.

ACH disputes

ACH disputes can occur, but they work differently from card disputes in that:

  • The ACH Direct Debit transaction will immediately transition to the “Dispute Lost” status when a dispute occurs

  • There is no evidence submission process and the dispute outcome is final

FAQs

Why is my invoice still Pending?

ACH payments typically take about 4 business days to settle. During this time, both the invoice and transaction remain pending while the payment processes.

What happens if the ACH payment fails?

If the transaction becomes Failed or Canceled, the invoice automatically returns to Opened, allowing the customer to attempt payment again.

Can I submit evidence for an ACH dispute?

No. ACH disputes do not support evidence submission, and the dispute status is final.

When does my customer get access to the offer?

It depends on your ACH-only setting:

  • Grant Offer Access immediately = ON: access is granted right after checkout, while transaction is Pending

  • Grant Offer Access immediately = OFF: access is granted only when the transaction becomes Paid

What happens if my customer cannot find their bank when trying to verify at checkout?

In cases where your customer cannot find their bank, they will not be able to complete checkout with ACH Direct Debit, though this should generally be rare.
