Getting a Branded App

What is a Branded App?

Branded App is a white-labeled mobile app that is customized to your brand and pre-loaded with your Kajabi courses and community. You will have your very own app(s) on the Apple App Store and Google Play store, all customized with your own branding and content. It is your own app with zero Kajabi branding.

What are the benefits of launching a Branded App?

The benefits of launching a Branded App are that you will have one place to engage your members in your courses, community, and content on mobile. You can acquire new customers through the app and sell them products via in-app purchases, or engage existing members through a seamless mobile experience. 

Push notifications also open up a whole new marketing channel for your business. You can target, schedule, and send notifications to drive people to your app or any landing page - similar to how you might use email marketing. 

How much does a Branded App cost?

The Branded App is an add-on to any Kajabi plan. There are two Branded App tiers available: our Basic Course-only plan for $89/mo or a Premium Course + Community plan for $199/mo.

Can I create multiple Branded Apps for my different Kajabi sites?

If you have multiple accounts with Kajabi, you can create one Branded App for each account. However, we don’t currently support the ability to create a Branded App for more than one site within the same Kajabi account.

How does a Branded App compare to building my own custom app?

With a Branded App, you can get your own mobile app for a fraction of the time and cost of a custom app. A custom app typically costs between $30-60k and takes 6-12 months to build. With a Branded App from Kajabi, your app goes live in weeks and you can get an app starting at just $89/mo.

How does the Branded App compare to the free Kajabi course or community app?

The Kajabi course or community apps require customers to download the Kajabi apps from the App Store and then log in to your brand. With your Branded App, you will have your own App Store listing with your logo and name, so your members will easily be able to find you.

The Branded App also has several features that are not available on the Kajabi Course or Community apps. You can get one app for your course and community, rather than two separate apps. Plus, you get a range of customization options like custom home screens, welcome and onboarding screens, custom links, and more. Plus, you can set up in-app purchases to be able to sell products and acquire new customers in your app, making it a new growth channel for your business. Plus, the Branded App also comes with targeted and customizable push notifications to help you in your marketing efforts.

Does Kajabi cover app maintenance and updates?

Yes, your app is fully built and maintained by us. We will continue to improve the app experience and you will get access to any new features or updates automatically. You can make changes to your branding and design at any time from your Kajabi account, and updates automatically update in your app!

Do I need to be a Kajabi customer to get a Branded App?

Yes, currently the Branded App is available only as an add-on to any Kajabi plan. Your app is built to include your existing course and community products within Kajabi. You must have a live Kajabi course in order to get started with your Branded App.


Branded App setup

How long does it take to get an app published once I purchase the add-on?

The time frame for publishing an app once you purchase the add-on typically ranges from 2-4 weeks, depending on the review processes conducted by Apple and Google. It's possible for apps to be rejected during these reviews, necessitating follow-up action from our team. However, you don't need to worry about these steps—our team will handle all initial approvals and ensure that your app is ready for launch as smoothly and quickly as possible.

Why do I need to create Apple and Google Developer Accounts?

Creating your own Apple and Google Developer Accounts is essential for a few reasons. Firstly, it allows you to manage and create in-app purchases directly, giving you full control over this aspect of your app. Secondly, you can manage and respond to app reviews, which can significantly impact your app's reputation and user feedback. Thirdly, having the app listed under your own brand and name not only enhances your brand's visibility but also aids in driving organic downloads through effective App Store Optimization (ASO) strategies.

Can I use my Kajabi login to get into the app?

No, unfortunately, at this time you cannot use your Kajabi account login to access the app. You will need to create a separate membership login and use that to log into the app. However, we are exploring future options that may allow for a new admin-like role, enabling use of your Kajabi account login.


Account creation

How does the Create Account feature work for Branded App?

To set up the Create Account feature for the Branded App, at least one course should be prominently featured on your home screen. This setup ensures that new members, who have not previously purchased any courses, are welcomed with a meaningful home screen experience. The presence of a course on the home screen is a condition for enabling the "Create Account" button to enhance this initial interaction.

Can I disable the ability for users to create an account using the Branded App?

Yes, you can prevent account creation in the Branded App. If you don’t utilize the home screen customization option, the feature that allows users to create an account will not be activated. This ensures that account creation is tied directly to how you choose to customize the app's home screen.

Do members who create an account count against my Kajabi limits?

Yes, every new member who creates an account through the Branded App is counted as a customer contact within your Kajabi CRM system. These new signups are tagged as 'branded app signup,' allowing you to set up targeted automations specifically for users who join through the app, enabling effective retargeting and engagement.


Selling on Apple and Google

How do Apple and Google app offers work?

Creating app offers for Apple and Google involves setting up a distinct offer from your existing ones within the Branded App section. You must be aware that pricing these offers will include a fee imposed by Apple and Google, generally ranging from 15% to 30%. Currently, the system supports only one-time purchases and not subscriptions.

What are the requirements for selling through Apple and Google?

To sell your offers through Apple and Google, you must first set up the necessary banking information for these platforms. You need to create and get approval for each app offer and in-app purchase, a process that involves Apple's approval for app builds and specific in-app purchases. Following the creation of your first app offer, the course should be featured on the home screen as this is required by Apple to test and ensure the functionality of in-app purchases. The final step is submitting your app's latest build and the in-app purchases to App Store Connect for approval. Google does not have such restrictions, as they do not require approvals for either your app or any new in-app purchases created.

What countries will my in-app purchases sell in?

We will automatically publish your in-app purchases through Apple and Google to 175 countries globally. Apple and Google will manage all aspects of currency conversions. To see more accurate revenue numbers, you can check your revenue reports in the respective platforms.

Why can I only choose specific pricing increments for Apple and Google offer prices?

The pricing increments available for offers within the Apple and Google platforms are set by these companies. Kajabi has no control over these increments; however, they are generally flexible enough to allow you to find an appropriate price point for your offers.

Can I update in-app purchase prices at any point once I create an app offer?

No, unfortunately, you cannot edit pricing for your existing Apple and Google app offers. We recommend creating a new in-app purchase offer by setting up new Apple and Google app offers. You can always disable any existing in-app purchase pricing offers if needed.

How does the in-app purchase approval process work?

For Apple, every new offer that includes an in-app purchase must be approved. When you create an offer in Kajabi, an in-app purchase is automatically created and sent to Apple for approval, typically within a few business days. Google, on the other hand, does not require a similar approval process, and in-app purchases for Google offers are instantly approved through the Google Console. However, Apple's process includes a review, and it's possible for in-app purchases to be rejected with reasons provided, requiring follow-up for approval.

Can I sell my existing offers to my Branded Mobile App audience?

Yes, you can effectively sell your existing offers to your app audience using several methods. One approach is to add direct links to your offers within the app using the 'Links' feature, which can be particularly effective for higher-priced offers. Another method is to create a mini-course within the app, offered for free or at a low entry price, and use the final module to upsell to a more expensive offer. Additionally, you can utilize the fact that Kajabi tags each new mobile signup with a “Branded app sign up” tag to identify app sign-ups, which in turn allows you to trigger targeted email automations, such as welcome emails and promotional offers, to upsell and engage these users effectively.

What kind of products can I currently sell inside of the Branded Mobile App?

At the moment, the Branded Mobile App supports the sale of courses exclusively. You can include a community access group in the offer, but you cannot have an in-app offer just for the community at this time. However, we are in the process of expanding this to include community and coaching products as in-app purchases. Keep an eye on future updates, which will broaden the range of products you can offer through the app, enhancing both your and your members' experience.

What happens if an Apple or Google member requests a refund?

When a refund is issued by Apple or Google, you will receive a notification about this transaction. We plan to introduce functionality that will automatically revoke access to any offers that the refunded members had previously accessed. Until then, it's necessary to manually revoke these offers following a refund.


Feature and content visibility

Why are some of my members not seeing the latest features in the branded app?

Members might not see the latest features for a few reasons. It could be because the latest build that includes these features hasn't been approved by Apple and Google yet, or it hasn't been submitted to the App Store and Google Play Store. Another common reason is that the member hasn't updated their app to the latest version available.

Can I block certain courses from showing up on the mobile app?

At present, it is not possible to block specific courses from appearing in the Courses tab of the mobile app. All courses owned by a member will be accessible regardless of other settings.


App customization and features

I would like to add my own custom modifications to the app. Is this possible?

No, unfortunately, at this time we do not support coding customizations of the app. However, we are planning to develop customizable widgets in the future, which you will be able to integrate optionally into the app. These widgets are designed to address some of the most common pain points for your members.

Why don't my website customizations show up in the Branded App?

The Branded App does not currently support the integration of customizations made on your website, as there is no mechanism to automatically transfer these changes. The app is primarily designed for general course consumption with limited customization options, though we are planning to expand these capabilities to include more personalized adjustments to the Courses section in future updates.

What kind of customizations can I do inside the app at the moment?

Currently, you can customize the Welcome Screen, Onboarding Carousels, and Home Screen within the app. You can set up multiple carousels on the Home Screen to feature specific courses, which facilitates an engaging onboarding experience for new members. We plan to introduce more comprehensive customization options in the future to further enhance user engagement and app personalization.

What does the little crown mean showing up on the carousel?

The crown icon displayed on a course within the carousel signifies that the course is not yet owned by the member. This course may be available for free through an app offer or as a paid option through an in-app purchase. Once the course is purchased, the crown icon will disappear, indicating that the member now owns the course and can access it through both the carousel and the Course tab in the app.

Will my existing community work inside of the Branded App?

Yes, if you have an existing community within Kajabi, it will be compatible with your Branded App. Your members will be able to access the community through a brand new Communities tab, provided you are subscribed to the $199 per month plan, which includes access to both courses and the community.

What languages are supported on the app?

Currently, there are 5 languages available on your iOS and Android apps. These include English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian.


Replacing my current app

I currently have an app with someone else. Can I replace that app with a Kajabi Branded Mobile App?

Yes, it is entirely feasible to replace your existing app with a Kajabi Branded Mobile App. Once you make this transition, your members will see the Kajabi app replacing the previous app on their devices following the next update. It is important to note that members will need to either create a new account if they don’t already have one linked to your Kajabi offerings, or they can log in using their existing Kajabi credentials. They will not be able to continue using the same credentials that were valid with the previous app provider.


Push notifications

What kind of things can I do with push notifications?

Push notifications are an effective tool for engaging with your members. You can target notifications based on specific segments you have created within Kajabi, or send them to all members. These notifications can be scheduled or sent in real-time, and the content of the notification is fully customizable. Additionally, notifications can direct members to various destinations, such as a specific course or an external URL, enhancing the interactive capabilities of your app.

How do push notification limits work?

You are limited to a specific number of notifications each month, with each notification sent counting toward this limit. For example, if your campaign targets 300 members and you send a notification to all of them, this will count as 300 notifications used from your monthly allowance.


Canceling your app or site

What is the cancellation policy for Branded App?

Your Branded App subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel your account before the end of the billing cycle. You may cancel your subscription at any time, in which case your subscription will continue until the end of that billing cycle before terminating. View the full Branded App Terms & Conditions.

What happens to my app if I archive or delete my site?

Archiving or deleting a site will disable the data feed for an app connected to that site. Customers will still see the app on their phone and in the app store, but it will no longer be functional.

If I have multiple sites and I delete the site my app is assigned to, will I be asked to reassign the app to another site?

No, you will not be asked to transfer your app to another site after you delete your site.

What happens to my app if I park my site?

When you are looking to Park your Kajabi Account, you will first need to reach out to bma.support@kajabi.com to cancel your Branded Mobile App add-on subscription. We can reactivate your app in the future if you choose to continue with the Branded Mobile App after upgrading your account from Parked.

Will my app start working again if I reactivate my parked site?

Yes, the data feed from your site to your app will also reactivate as long as your app store account is still active and your customers still have the app on their phones. Your customers may need to update the app to the latest version.
