What is a Cohort-based Course?

A cohort-based Course on Kajabi is a powerful new Course structure that enables your students to progress through your Course material together in cohort groups, following a predetermined schedule.

Offer live video sessions on whatever schedule suits your Course best to give each cohort group the opportunity to interact in real time while they progress in tandem through your Course, fostering collaboration and a greater sense of community.

Create a Cohort-Based Course from Scratch

When you create a cohort-based Course, you’ll have the option to either create a new Course from scratch or import the material from an existing evergreen Course. Follow the steps below to create a new Course from scratch.

To create a Course from scratch:

  • Open the Products tab from your Dashboard.

  • Click the + New Product button.
(Or click “Get Started” if you’re creating your very first Product).

  • Select Course as the product type and click Get Started.

  • Select Cohorts for your Course type and click Next.

  • Choose Start from scratch.

  • Add a Title and a Brief Description for your Course.

  • (Optional) Toggle on Use this info to generate content and additional resources if desired. Selecting this option will create an AI-generated course outline and lesson material, an opt-in landing page with a form that automatically tags your contacts on submission, and a course announcement email broadcast to send when you’re ready. Learn more about creating content with the AI Content Assistant.

  • Choose a Start date for your first cohort group and Course module and click Next.
You can change this date in your admin settings later if desired.

  • Select your Primary (header), Secondary (sidebar), and Accent (buttons/links) color settings, optionally upload a Course thumbnail image (recommended dimensions: 1280 x 720 px), and click Next.

  • Choose to create either a Paid or Free Course.
If you create a Paid Course, choose your desired Payment frequency, Price, and Payment method. You can also update your pricing later. Learn to connect a payment processor.
