How Klarna works
Klarna is a Buy Now Pay Later payment method that allows your customers to choose from various payment plans, letting them manage their finances more flexibly, while you get the full payment amount upfront.
At checkout, customers selecting to pay with Klarna are redirected to Klarna’s secure site, where they’ll either log in or create an account. Klarna then determines the available payment options based on the customer’s location, creditworthiness, and purchase amount.
Common Klarna payment options include:
Pay in full (Pay Now): Your customer pays for the purchase immediately using a card. Required for low-value purchases that don’t meet installment thresholds.
Pay later: Your customer pays for the purchase in a single payment due in 30 days with no interest.
Pay in 3 or 4: Your customer pays for the purchase in three or four interest-free installments. The total transaction amount is typically spread equally across the installments, but Klarna might occasionally charge your customer more in the first installment based on the customer’s purchasing power and other credit factors.
Financing: Your customer pays for the purchase over a longer term (up to 36 months), with potential interest charges. Not all customers are approved for the maximum amount, and approval is subject to creditworthiness.
Note:
Klarna determines which options are shown based on the customer’s eligibility, location, and your offer price. If the offer amount exceeds Klarna’s max in your region, Klarna will not appear as a payment method at checkout.
