How to Create a Gift Offer

What is a Gift Offer?

Kajabi is proud to introduce a new streamlined way to create and sell a gift offer!

A gift offer allows offers to be purchased as a gift for others. Best of all, you do not need to create a new offer to sell a gift offer, any of your current offers can be converted with the flip of a button!

How To Enable Gift Offers

To enable gift offers:

From your Kajabi dashboard, select Sales, then Offers.
In Offers, either create a new offer (link) or select the existing offer that you wish to use
Once in the Offer page, select Settings
Toggle on Enable “Send as gift” at checkout
Remember to save your changes.
Once the gift offer has been enabled, you can preview it. The chosen offer image (link) and your site logo (link) will be displayed.

Note:

Gift offers can only be enabled for one-time offers with products attached.

What will my customer see?

Upon checkout, your customer will select the “send as gift option”. This will open up a gift menu, where they will enter the email address for whom they wish to send the gift to. They can also add a gift message if they would like, as well as schedule the gift delivery for up to 6 months in advance.

They will then fill out the checkout form with their information and payment details, then complete the purchase. Kajabi will take it from there!

Note:

The gift offer will override any custom purchase confirmation you have set on the offer.

What will the gift recipient see?

Once the gift has been delivered to the recipient's inbox, they must click into the email and accept the gift. Once the gift has been accepted, they will be prompted to create a login and password to start their membership with your site and access their gift:

Which offer type can I use for Gift Offers?

Only a one-time purchase offer may be used for a gift offer.

Can I use a ghost offer as a gift offer?

No, to use a gift offer, the offer must have a product attached.

Can I use an upsell or downsell with my gift offer?

Upsells and downsells are disabled when a gift offer is enabled for that offer. Checkout bumps are also disabled in favor of the gift offer.

How far in advance can I send a gift?

A gift offer can be scheduled up to 6 months in advance. They will be delivered around 9 am pst on the scheduled day.

Create an Offer your customers can gift to their friends and family.

What is a Gift Offer?

A Gift Offer is an Offer that a customer pays for and sends to someone else as a gift so that they can access the content.

Think of a Gift Offer like a gift card.

You pre-pay for the gift card and gift it to someone else so they can use it however they choose.

With this guide, you will learn how to create an Offer and assign it a coupon. That coupon is what your customers can purchase and send via email to their intended recipient to use however they choose.

Note:

This setup will give access to the Product(s) included with the Offer to the purchaser and the receiver of the gift. This is similar to that of a "Buy One, Get One" discount. However, if you wish to give access to the gift receiver only and not the purchaser, simply remove the Product from the Gift Offer.

Step 1. Set up a gift offer

First, duplicate the Offer that you wish to set up as a Gift Offer.

Duplicating your Offer allows you to create an Offer specific for customers who want to gift your content to their friends and family. Your Gift Offer will be a duplicated version of the original Offer for your customers to purchase and gift.

To duplicate your Offer:

Open the Sales tab from your Dashboard.
Select Offers.
Locate the Offer you want to provide a gift option for and click the … icon.
Select Duplicate:

This duplicated Offer can then be used specifically for gifting purposes for your customers to purchase and gift.

Customize your Gift Offer with descriptive copy and imagery to emphasize the purpose of the Offer.

Tip:

If you wish to give access to the gift receiver and not the buyer, simply remove the Product from the duplicated Offer by creating a Ghost Offer. Additionally, you can disable the Purchase Confirmation Email if you do not want the buyer to receive the link to your site Login page after purchase.

Step 2. Create a coupon

Next, create a 100% off coupon applied to the original Offer. This will act as the "gift card" or "gift voucher" sent to the buyer after purchase. The buyer can then gift the single-use coupon code.

To create your coupon:

Open the Sales tab from the Dashboard.
Click Offers.
Select Coupons.
Navigate to the top right of the page and click + New Coupon.
Select Single Coupon as the Coupon Type.
Customize your Coupon code and create a 100% off coupon.
Select Once for the Duration.
Leave the Expiration Date blank if you don't want the Gift Offer to expire:

Activate your coupon

The coupon code is exclusive to the Offer(s) added in the Included Offers section of the coupon editor. For the coupon to be applied, you must first activate your coupon.

Add an Offer to your Coupon:

Navigate to the Included Offers section of the coupon editor and click + Add Offer.
Choose the Offer the Coupon will apply to.
Important: This should be the original Offer, not the newly duplicated Gift Offer.

Step 3. Create an automation

Create an Automation when the Gift Offer is purchased to send an email containing a single-use coupon.

Keep in mind, this Automation is separate from the "Send an email" Automation and is best used in this scenario to create a single-use coupon code that will expire after it has been applied.

Note:

The single-use coupon code generates a unique code connected to the coupon selected in the Automation. This will apply the same coupon settings to the single-use coupon code, but it will only be available for a single purchase. After the single-use coupon code is applied to a purchase, the code will expire and cannot be used for future purchases.

To create your single-use coupon automation:

Open the Sales tab from the Dashboard.
Click Offers.
Select the Gift Offer to customize.
In the Offer Editor, navigate to Automations.
Click + Add Automation.
From the When dropdown menu, select Offer is purchased.
From the Then dropdown menu, select Send a single-use coupon.
Select the 100% off coupon code you created in step 2.
Customize the automation email according to your brand and language:

This Automation will send the buyer a single-use coupon code after purchase.

The single-use coupon code will be a unique coupon code connected to your 100% off coupon. This ensures that the single-use coupon code expires after it is applied to a purchase.

This is a great way to ensure that gift purchases will only be available to the gifted customer.

If the single-use coupon code is shared after it has already been applied to a purchase, the attempt will render an error message stating that the coupon has already been applied to a purchase and is no longer available for use.

You will not need to create multiple single-use coupons if you create this Automation (The Automation will do it for you!)

The buyer can then forward the email to whomever they choose to gift the Offer to.

Tip:

Customize the single-use coupon email with cheerful copy and images. Use image editing tools like Canva to create an image of a Gift Certificate for your customer to seamlessly forward a custom-designed email to their gift receiver. Then include the original Offer Checkout Page link in the email to easily apply the single-use coupon code.

Step 4. Share your offer

Share the link to your Gift Offer and encourage your customers to gift the value you provide to their friends and family.

Share your link on social network platforms, email campaigns, online blogs, sales pages, your Store, or anywhere your customers live.

With the link to your Gift Offer, your customers can purchase your Gift Offer and receive the single-use coupon code. From there, they can send the Offer link with the coupon code applied to the gift receiver.

To add the Gift Offer to your Online Store:

Open the Website tab from the Dashboard.
Click Pages.
Click Store from the list of Website Pages.

Select the Gift Offer created in Step 1.
Click Save to keep your changes:

What happens when a customer purchases a Gift Offer?

When your customer purchases your Gift Offer, they will receive their unique single-use coupon code in their email. This is accomplished by creating the single-use coupon automation after the Offer is purchased.

Your customer can then forward, print, or share the single-use coupon code to whomever they choose to gift the Offer to.

After the single-use coupon code is applied to a purchase on the Checkout Page of the Offer, the unique code will expire and cannot be applied to future purchases.

If you have allowed the default Post Purchase setting to send your site's Purchase Confirmation Email, then the customer will also receive this automated email sent by your site.
