Kajabi provides tools to manage every aspect of your custom domain, including disconnecting or reconnecting the domain, reverting to your default Kajabi subdomain (.mykajabi.com), and resolving DNS issues.
Disconnecting Your Custom Domain
To disconnect your custom domain from Kajabi, follow these steps:
Open your Kajabi dashboard and navigate to Settings > Domain.
Locate the custom domain you want to disconnect.
Click the three-dot menu (located next to your custom domain).
Select Remove or Disconnect to complete the process.
Important:
If there is no three-dot menu or no option to disconnect, your domain may not currently be connected to your Kajabi account.
In some cases, you may also need to update your DNS settings at your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Squarespace) to stop pointing the domain to Kajabi.
Enter the required information, such as the subdomain name (e.g., courses). Do not enter the full domain (e.g., [courses.example.com](https://courses.example.com)).
Reconnecting or Adding a Custom Domain
To reconnect or add a custom domain to your Kajabi account, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Domain in your Kajabi dashboard.
Click Setup Custom Domain.
Choose and follow one of the available methods:
Connect Domain to Kajabi (Nameserver Method): Update the nameservers at your domain registrar as provided by Kajabi.
Subdomain Method: Update specific DNS records (e.g., CNAME) at your registrar per Kajabi's instructions.
Allow up to 24- 48 hours for DNS propagation.
Test your domain's connection using an incognito browser or check its live URL.
Reconnecting After Domain Renewal:
If you renewed your domain with your registrar and need to reconnect, reconnect the domain by clicking Setup Custom Domain again and completing the DNS settings updates.
Switching Back to Kajabi Subdomain
If you want to use the default Kajabi subdomain instead of your custom domain:
Go to Settings > Domain.
Click the three-dot menu next to your custom domain.
Select Remove. This will automatically revert your Kajabi site to the default subdomain.
Troubleshooting Common Domain Issues
Resolving DNS Connection Issues
If your domain is not connecting properly, you may need to:
Remove the custom domain in Kajabi and then go through the setup process again.
Verify that the DNS records at your registrar match the values provided by Kajabi.
Allow time for DNS propagation, which can take up to 24-48 hours after making changes.
Updating DNS Settings for Specific Registrars
For users dealing with specific platforms like GoDaddy or Squarespace:
Disconnect the domain from the current platform (e.g., Squarespace).
Remove the old nameservers (e.g., Kajabi’s Cloudflare nameservers).
Add the new DNS records or nameservers applicable to your setup.
This process ensures that domains pointing to one service can be updated to point to another (e.g., for GHL record setup).
