Resubscribe an accidentally unsubscribed contact

Recover contacts that were unsubscribed by accident using a Double Opt-in Form.

A resubscribe puts a contact back on your marketing email list after they unsubscribed by accident, mistyped their address, or changed it. You can't switch them back on yourself. They opt in again through a Form and confirm by email, which also records their consent.

Manual resubscribing and email laws

Subscribers are contacts who gave permission to receive your marketing emails. Resubscribing someone yourself may put you out of step with electronic communication and data privacy laws, so let your contact opt in again through a Form. Consult legal counsel in your area to understand the email laws that apply to you and your recipient's country or region before you apply this guide.

Resubscribe a contact with a Double Opt-in Form

A Double Opt-in Form makes your contact confirm they want your marketing emails. New Forms use double opt-in by default. Learn how to set up a Form with double opt-in. Add any custom Fields you want to capture about your contact.

  1. From the Dashboard, click Marketing, then Forms.

  2. Select the Double Opt-in Form you want to use.

  3. Click Preview in the top menu.

  4. Enter the contact's correct information in the Form.

  5. Click Submit.

Your contact receives the Double Opt-In Resubscription email and must click Confirm subscription to resubscribe:

Important please confirm your subscription

If your contact ignores the email, they stay unsubscribed.

Note: Resubscribing a contact doesn't add them back to Email Sequences they were removed from. If a contact unsubscribed from an Email Sequence and resubscribes, they won't receive its emails.

Customize the resubscription email

Previously unsubscribed contacts receive the Double Opt-In Resubscription template, not the Double Opt-in email sent to new contacts. A custom confirmation email set on your Form doesn't apply here. To change the wording, open Settings, select Email Templates, and edit Double Opt-In Resubscription. Learn how to edit the automated emails your site sends.

Contacts who reported an email as spam

If a contact reported one of your emails as spam, including when someone they forwarded it to reported it, they can't be resubscribed, even with a Double Opt-in Form. Kajabi doesn't send them a confirmation email. Contact Kajabi Support for help.

Deleting and re-importing a contact

Deleting a contact and re-importing them doesn't resubscribe them. They still need to confirm through a Double Opt-in Form. Learn how to import contacts into Kajabi.

FAQs

Why didn't my contact receive the confirmation email?

Kajabi limits how many confirmation emails it sends to the same address, so repeated submissions won't send more. If emails to the address kept failing, Kajabi unsubscribed it, so check that the address is spelled correctly.

Why does my Single Opt-In Form still send a confirmation email?

When an address was previously unsubscribed, Kajabi always requires confirmation, whatever the Form's opt-in setting.
