Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a code after your password each time you log in, so someone who learns your password still can't get into your account. Kajabi also calls 2FA multi-factor authentication (MFA). 2FA is for account owners and account users, not customers of Kajabi sites.
You can get 2FA codes in two ways:
An authenticator app on your phone makes a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds. It works in every country.
A text message (SMS) from Kajabi sends a 6-digit code to your phone. SMS isn't available in every country. If it isn't available in yours, use an authenticator app.
These authenticator apps are free:
Google Authenticator (App Store / Google Play Store)
Microsoft Authenticator (App Store / Google Play Store)
Note:
Kajabi doesn't send 2FA login codes by email. Use an authenticator app or text message.
When Kajabi requires 2FA
We recommend 2FA for everyone. Kajabi requires 2FA for every account owner and user in these cases:
Kajabi Payments is turned on for any site in the account.
You're a Kajabi Partner and you've sent a Client Link request to a client. 2FA is then required for every user on your own Kajabi account, but not when you work in the client's account through Client Link.
Kajabi has set 2FA as required for the account.
When 2FA is required, you see these changes:
Accounts that use Kajabi Payments see Multi-factor authentication is required for your account. Please enroll to continue.
Other accounts see the banner Mandatory 2FA enrollment required for your account. You must enroll now.
In Sign In & Security, the Disable button is replaced by Why can't I disable?, because required 2FA can't be turned off.
Set up 2FA
To set up 2FA on your Kajabi account:
Click Set up 2FA in the Two-factor authentication (2FA) section.
Click Log out and continue. Kajabi logs you out.
Log in again. The 2FA setup screen opens.
Select Google Authenticator or similar or SMS.
Authenticator app
To finish setting up 2FA with an authenticator app:
Download an authenticator app on your phone, if you don't have one.
Scan the QR code on the setup screen with the authenticator app. If you can't scan the QR code, click Trouble Scanning? to get a code you can type into the app.
Enter the 6-digit one-time code from the authenticator app on the setup screen.
Click Continue.
Save the recovery code Kajabi shows somewhere safe, such as a password manager.
2FA is now on.
One authenticator app can hold 2FA codes for several Kajabi accounts. Each Kajabi account shows as its own entry with its own code.
SMS
To finish setting up 2FA with SMS:
Select your Country.
Enter your Phone Number without the country code.
Click Continue.
Enter the 6-digit code from the Kajabi text message on the setup screen, and click Continue. If no text message arrives, check the phone number and click Resend.
Save the recovery code Kajabi shows somewhere safe.
Select the I have safely recorded this code checkbox.
Click Sign in.
2FA is now on.
Log in with a 2FA recovery code
If you lose your phone or authenticator app, you can log in with your 2FA recovery code:
Enter your email and password on the Kajabi login page and click Sign in.
On the 2FA code screen, open the recovery code option. If you use an authenticator app, click Use recovery code. If you use SMS, click Try another method, then select Recovery code.
Enter your recovery code and click Sign in.
Save the new recovery code Kajabi shows somewhere safe.
Select the I have safely recorded this code checkbox.
Click Sign in.
You're now logged in. Each recovery code works only once, so your old recovery code stops working and the new one replaces it.
Reset 2FA
If you lost access to your 2FA method and your recovery code, you can reset 2FA from the Kajabi login page:
Enter your email and password on the Kajabi login page and click Sign in.
Click Reset code on the 2FA code screen.
Open the email with the subject line Your Kajabi verification code.
Enter the 6-digit code from that email on the reset screen within 10 minutes, and click Verify.
Log in again with your email and password on the login page.
Select and set up a new 2FA method.
2FA is now on with your new method.
To prevent abuse, Kajabi limits 2FA resets from the login page. Keep these limits in mind:
Each code from the Your Kajabi verification code email works for 10 minutes, and you get 5 tries to enter it.
To get another code, click Resend code. You can request up to 3 new codes, 60 seconds apart (Resend code is grayed out until the wait is over). Each new code gives you 5 more tries.
If a code expires or you run out of tries, go back to the login page and start the reset again.
Starting more than 10 resets, entering more than 10 codes, or clicking Resend code more than 5 times, all within 15 minutes, blocks 2FA resets for up to 15 minutes. After that, start the reset again.
For the exact messages, see Error messages.
2FA code doesn't arrive or doesn't work
If the 2FA text message doesn't arrive, try these steps:
Check that your phone number and country are correct.
Check that your phone has signal or a data connection.
Click Resend on the 2FA screen.
If the 2FA text message still doesn't arrive, log in with your recovery code.
If the 2FA code from your authenticator app doesn't work, set your phone's date and time to update automatically. Authenticator app codes only work when your phone's clock is accurate.
Change or disable 2FA
To change or disable 2FA, you need a password.
To change your 2FA method while you're logged in, for example when you get a new phone:
Click Change in the Two-factor authentication (2FA) section.
Enter your password in the pop-up and click Confirm.
Click Log out and continue. Kajabi logs you out.
Log in again and set up the new 2FA method.
You can disable 2FA if your account doesn't require it. To disable 2FA:
Click Disable in the Two-factor authentication (2FA) section.
Enter your password in the pop-up and click Confirm.
2FA is now off, and your next login won't ask for a 2FA code. If you see Why can't I disable? instead of Disable, your account requires 2FA. See When Kajabi requires 2FA.
